비스트의 멤버 용준형이 자주 숙소를 이탈했던 까닭은?
비스트는 최근 정규 1집 '픽션 앤 팩트'를 발표한 후 타이틀곡 '픽션'과 발라드 수록곡 '비가 오는 날엔'으로 각종 음악프로그램의 1위를 석권하며 최고의 인기를 구가하고 있다. 특히 용준형은 수록곡 '프리즈'를 직접 작사, 작곡은 물론 편곡까지해 눈길을 끌고 있다.
멤버 양요섭은 "이번 앨범은 여러모로 뜻깊다. 특히 준형이는 작곡을 했다. 어쩐지 혼자만 숙소에 돌아오지 않더라. '뭘 하길래 그렇게 외박을 하나'라고 생각했는데 알고보니 작업실에서 작곡을 하느라 밤을 꼬박 샌 것"이라고 털어놨다.
이에 대해 용준형은 "작업실이 지하에 있어서 시간가는 줄 모르고 작업했다. 작업에 몰두하다 보면 어느새 새벽이더라. 너무 피곤해 운전을 못하겠다 싶을 땐 대리기사를 불러 뒤늦게 숙소로 돌아가곤 했다"고 밝혔다. 이어 "예전부터 작곡에 관심이 많았다. 꾸준히 공부를 해왔고 이번에 본격적으로 작업을 했다. 그런데 작곡한 곡을 밤에 들었을 땐 괜찮았다가도 그 다음날 들어보면 마음에 들지 않았다. 수 십개의 곡을 썼다 버리길 반복했다"고 덧붙였다.
용준형은 "그러던 중 신사동 호랭이 형님이 '한 곡을 잡고 계속 수정을 해보라'고 권유했다. 그래서 수 십 차례 수정 작업을 거쳐 처음 나온 곡을 사장님에게 들려드렸더니 '뭐 이런걸 갖고 왔어'라고 하셨다. 정말 큰 충격을 받았고 '난 작곡에 소질이 없나'라는 좌절감에 빠졌다"며 "그때 신사동 호랭이 형님이 '나조차도 한 번에 오케이 받는 것은 드물다. 안되면 또 다르게 작업을 해보면 되지 않겠느냐'라고 조언했다. 그래서 다시 곡 작업에 몰입했고, 그렇게 '프리즈'가 나왔다"고 덧붙였다.
그는 "가장 고마운 분은 신사동 호랭이 형님이다. 아마 형님이 안 없었다면 자작곡을 낼 생각도 못 했을 것 같다. 지금도 '나한테서 뽑아낼 수 있는 것은 다 가져가'라며 작곡에 대해 많이 알려주신다"라며 "멤버들도 고맙다. 멤버들이 노래를 들어보고나서 꼭 정규 앨범에 넣어야한다고 밀어줬다. 그래서 이번 앨범에 수록됐고, 나에겐 여러가지로 의미 깊은 앨범이 됐다"며 웃었다.
'더 많은 곡을 만들고 싶다'는 용준형. 앞으로 그의 외박 횟수에 따라 자작곡 수도 함께 늘어날 것 같다.

Recently, after BEAST released their first official album ‘Fiction and Fact’ they won 1st place on numerous music programs with their title track ‘Fiction’ and their ballad track ‘On Rainy Days’, becoming extremely popular. In particular, Junhyung composed, wrote, and produced the track ‘Freeze’, attracting attention.
Yoseob said “This album is significant for many reasons. Specially, Junhyung produced a song. For some reason, he’s the only one who wouldn’t come home. I thought, ‘What is he doing that makes him sleep elsewhere’ but I saw that he would stay up all night in the producing room writing a song.”
At this, Junhyung said “Because the producing room is in the basement, I worked hard not knowing time passed. When I concentrated on working, it would already be dawn. When I was too tired to drive, I would call a driver and return home late.” Also “I was interested in writing songs since long ago. I studied it continuously and I finally started working now. However, when I listened to the song I wrote at night, it would sound nice and then the next day, I wouldn’t like it. I wrote a few songs and then threw them away, repeating this cycle over and over again.”
Junhyung said “One day, S.Tiger hyung suggested to me ‘Hold onto one song and try fixing it.’ And so after going through, fixing the song, I let the president listen to my first song and he said ‘Why did you bring this.’ I was shocked, thinking ‘Do I not have any talent in producing’ and I was upset. Then, S. Tiger hyung said ‘It is rare for even me to get an okay on the first try. If it doesn’t work, why don’t you try again.’ So I started working again and the song ‘Freeze’ came out.
He said “I’m most thankful to S.Tiger hyung. If it wasn’t for him, I would’ve never thought to release a self produced song. Even now he tells me ‘Take everything you can get from me’ and he continues to teach me about producing” and “I thank my members. After listening to the song, they told me that the song has to go into the first official album. And so it was put into the album, and this album has become very significant to me in a variety of ways.”
‘I want to produce more songs’ says Junhyung. The more he sleeps elsewhere, I think the number of songs he produces will also multiply.
